Hospice Care For Patients With Pulmonary Disease

SoCal Hospice understands the unique challenges faced by patients with respiratory failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Fibrosis, and other severe lung diseases that meet hospice criteria. In response, we offer specialized end-of-life care that is tailored to meet the specific needs of these individuals.

Our team at SoCal Hospice possesses expertise in providing specialized care and utilizing the necessary equipment to ensure the utmost comfort for hospice patients with pulmonary diseases. Through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes aggressive symptom management, we strive to minimize emergency room visits and hospital readmissions, thereby enhancing the overall well-being of our patients.

In addition to clinical care, our interdisciplinary team at SoCal provides extensive education to both patients and their caregivers. We place great emphasis on building understanding, establishing realistic expectations, and empowering individuals to maintain a sense of control as the disease progresses. This education, along with our specialized care and attention, forms the foundation of our Pulmonary Hospice Program, all aimed at achieving our primary goal: providing the patient with the best possible quality of life.

SoCal Hospice’s specialized care for patients with cardiac disease includes:
  • Airvo (high-flow oxygen) and Bipap (for patients that would otherwise be required to stay in the hospital)
  • Pleurx for chest drainage (Thoracentesis), including nurses are trained to drain in the home to prevent re-admission to hospital and emergency room visits
  • Medications delivered to the home for symptom management
  • Nebulizer treatment, rescue inhalers (for shortness of breath), and other medications as needed
This program can help relieve many of the major symptoms associated with pulmonary disease, such as:
  • Chest pains
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Respiratory infections
  • Fluid buildup and uncontrolled coughing
  • Intensified stress, anxiety or depression
